Come and enjoy the world’s first floating eco-park!

Located along the North Branch Canal of the Chicago River, the Wild Mile can be enjoyed by foot or boat.

Head to the end of W Eastman Street behind REI to access the Wile Mile boardwalk. Walk amongst the floating gardens or launch from our public access dock. Kayak and see the river the way it is meant to be enjoyed.

Come visit the first section of the floating boardwalk by car, bike, or CTA.

Shedd Aquarium’s Kayak for Conservation

These eco kayak tours offer you the opportunity to look nature in the eye, learn about innovative efforts to improve the health of the Chicago River for wildlife and help keep our waterways clean—all while taking in the beauty of our city.

REI’s Wild Mile Kayak Tour

Ideal for everyone, beginners and seasoned kayakers, you can hone your kayaking skills while exploring the Chicago River's newest addition to the community. Learn all about the surrounding ecosystem, and maybe even catch a glimpse of a Great Blue Heron or a Largemouth bass. The best thing about this tour? REI does all the planning and packing--you just have to show up. They can't wait to paddle with you!


Rent a Kayak

Kayak Chicago

Chicago’s original kayak and paddleboard outfitter. Their kayak shops have everything you need for your urban adventure on the Chicago River, family outings at Montrose, or catching some sunshine at North Ave Beach.

Rentals include your boat & paddle, personal flotation device, and introductory orientation to kayaking; they teach paddle strokes, safety, and rules of the water. Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult on a double kayak. No reservations are necessary.

Waterriders

Launching from their dock under the Kinzie St. bridge, Wateriders is wonderfully close to the heart of downtown Chicago and just a few minutes paddling from the main attractions. They are proud to offer the one of the best urban kayaking experience in the city, at the best rates. Single and double (tandem) kayaks are available.
